Class learns meaning of word through sound

by Andra Stefanoni

October 09, 2001

Debbie Restivo's SFA class learned the meaning of a vocabulary words this week through a live demonstration by a Frontenac High School music student.

"The word was 'bellowing'," said Restivo. "We were reading Dinosaurs Before Dark by Mary Pope Osborne. In the book, the Anatosaurus bellowed like a tuba to protect her babies from harm. I thought it would be neat to let the kids hear what a bellowing tuba sounds like."

Erin Brumbaugh obliged Restivo by producing some exceptional bellowing tones on a tuba during reading class last week.
