Foundation: History

How we began and what we've accomplished

Total amount donated through December 2007 exceeds

$550,000

The Frontenac Education Foundation appreciates the continued support of USD #249 students, teachers, administration, parents, school board and community.

 

1993

• Frontenac Education Foundation formed at the request of Greg Hafner, superintendent - based on advice from USD 249 accountant.

• Charter board members:  Patricia Terlip, President; Gary Cinotto, Treasurer; Anna Marie Krusic, Secretary; Dick Pallucca & Gus Bosetti

• Purpose:  A non-profit organization to place bequests that were coming to the school.

• Initial funds were about$13,000

 

1994

• Primary focus was to provide books as needed and channel bequest money to scholarships.

• Board adds two new members:  Linda Grilz and Paul Hutsey

 

1995

• Voters approve a $2.5 million school bond by 70% margin

• Donated $2325.95 for library books

• Gary Cinotto, president

 

1996

• New Jr.-Sr. High School built

• Donated $615.62 for library books

• Gary Cinotto, president

 

1997

Lasting Impressions Fund Drive raises $250,000 to fund technology, equipment and furnishings.

• Board discussed coming up with a one-day fund raising event to earn $25,000

1998

• Conducted a Phonathon

• Donated USD 249 $89,487.26 for various books, supplies and equipment

• Board discussed funding a scholarship for every graduate.

1999

• First ever Festa Italiana was held at Camptown Greyhound Park.

• Jim Fischer, Kansas City Star, wrote an article about Festa Italiana and the fact it funded scholarships for every student. He was later a guest on the Jim Leher Hour where he discussed our accomplishments. This led to a call from a reporter from the Chicago Tribuneresulting in a story and pictures.

• Funded USD 249 $10,000 for Success for All Reading Program

• Funded $2,800 for scholarship for every graduate

• Linda Grilz, president

New Board Members:  Dan Brunetti, Lois Ziesenis, Kaye Lynne Webb.

 

2000

• Hosted Festa Italiana for a second year at Camptown.

• Gifted $15,000 for ASA memorial

• Awarded$6,800 to scholarship for every student

• Debbie Bridwell, president

 

2001

• Festa moved to new Fire Station

• Awarded $2000 to Success for All reading program

$9700 awarded to scholarship for every graduate

• Lois Ziesenis, president

 

2002

• Donated $1500 to the Success for All Reading program.

• Made a $500 donation to Art Train

• Festa Italiana held at Fire Station for a second year.

• Awarded $16,300 to scholarship for every graduate

• Awarded $2500 to Moon Buggy competition.

2003

• State-wide Educational cutbacks

Kicked off the “Changing the World, One Child at a Time” $500,000 fund drive over five years.

• Festa Italiana moved to new football field (stadium area)

• Awarded $35,000 to USD 249 for Every Day Math Program

• Donated $1500 to Success for All Reading program;

• Made $600donation to Drama Club

• Donated $500 for Video Competition trip

$5,431.35 awarded as teacher mini grants

$17,600 awarded to scholarship for every graduate

2004

• Festa moves to new location, Adolph Spigarelli football field.

• Awarded $150,000 to USD 249 for equipment including mobile computer lab.

• Awarded $5000 for Teacher Mini grants.

• Donated $1500 to Success for All Reading program.

$16,000 (estimated) awarded to scholarship for every graduate

2005

• Festa moves to Mike Falletti field at the Frontenac Sports Complex

• Successful school bond for additional classrooms for high school, offices, gymnasium

• Awarded $5,102.79 for Teacher Mini grants.

• Donated $1500 to Success for All Reading program.

$15,000 (estimated) awarded to scholarship for every graduate

2006

• Held donor reception and introduced Endowment Program

• Donated $1500 to Success for All Reading program.

• Festa Italiana held at Mike Falletti Field, Frontenac Sports Complex

• Awarded $5013 to Teacher mini grants.

$15,200 awarded to scholarship for every graduate

$3,019.24 given to Love and Logic program

• Awarded $5,371.01 for Teacher mini grants.

$14,998awarded for Technology at new Senior High 

• Festa Italiana will be held at Mike Falletti field, Frontenac Sports Complex

$50,000 given to USD 249 for furnishings

• Board held a retreat to review mission and vision for the Foundation

• Festa Italiana held at Mike Falletti Field, Frontenac Sports Complex

$15,200 (estimated) awarded to scholarship for every graduate
