The smell of Thanksgiving food drifted through the halls of the elementary on Tuesday, Nov. 24. Each class celebrated in different ways, but food was one thing that they had in common. Instead of eating in the lunchroom, students enjoyed lunch in their classroom.
In the kindergarten, the feast began at 11 a.m. All kindergarten
students gathered in Susie Murray’s classroom to eat turkey,
macaroni and cheese, corn, rolls, and pumpkin pie.
The second grade enjoyed Friendship Stew. How did this name form?
All of the students participate in this activity; everyone has a
part in it. Each student brought something for the celebration.
Some brought food to put in the stew and others brought the bowls
and spoons.
Before the students in Martha Harper’s second grade class enjoyed their stew, each student took a turn in saying what they are thankful for. Many students agreed that they are thankful for their parents and friends.
“I am thankful for pumpkin pie,” said a second grade boy in Harper’s class.
Then, Harper told the class what she was thankful for. “I am thankful for this wonderful class this year,” said Harper.
The holiday celebrations continued throughout the day with classroom parties.
