Frontenac High School: Counselor

Juniors

College/Career Planning

By Paula Ketterman

August 26, 2009

This year it will be important for you to begin narrowing down your career choices and begin seriously considering your post-secondary plans.  There are just a few items to highlight.

  1. ACT---All juniors will take a practice ACT in December and it will be scored locally.  This will give you information so you can plan your preparation for the ACT National Test Dates.  ACT recommends that students take the ACT in the spring of the Junior year.  IT IS NEVER TO EARLY TO BEGIN PRACTICE TESTS.  Go to ACTSTUDENT.ORG for  more information about the ACT and to obtain practice tests.
  2. Juniors will participate in a Junior Job Shadow Day.  This will give  you a chance to spend time with a person in your chosen career field.  More details will come later in the fall.
  3. Continue to focus on academics and gaining skills in the elective classes you have.  Keep updating your accomplishments  and activities in your Faculty Advisor portfolio.
  4. You may want to research colleges and training programs available by using actstudent.org or sites from the web resources article on the counselor website  and research careers using the online version of the Occupational Outlook Handbook.
