Financial Aid Information

By Paula Ketterman

September 07, 2007

Filing an application for federal financial aid is FREE, so there is no reason not to apply. This application will determine your need for grants, loans, and work study programs.

Most colleges require students receiving any scholarships to file the FAFSA also. Financial aid for the 2008-09 school year (your freshman year in college) will be based on your parents/guardians 2007 income (2007 INCOME TAX RETURNS WILL BE NEEDED.)

Financial Aid forms are available in January. The FAFSA form is available on-line, and you are strongly encouraged to file on-line. Some colleges are beginning to require that you file on-line. It speeds up the process. (www.fafsa.ed.gov)

We will discuss financial aid in depth in January. Until then, use the web resources available to learn more about financial aid options and check out the financial aid calculators.
